On 14 July 2020, Ambassador Mr. István Szabó made a farewell visit to Foreign Secretary Mr. Sohail Mahmood. The Hungarian Head of Mission said that said that during his eight-year mission to Pakistan, he had acquired many beautiful memories in the country, which had developed a lot in the recent years.
Mr. István Szabó highlighted that the contractual relations between the two countries have been strengthened, underlining the agreements concluded in the economic field, which are important for the operation of MOL Group's local subsidiary. MOL Pakistan employs 400 people in the country and supplies 14% of Pakistan's energy needs.
Talking about the global coronavirus epidemic, the Ambassador indicated that Hungary remains committed to continuing the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, through which the Hungarian Government provides the opportunity for yearly 200 Pakistani students to continue their studies at various Hungarian higher education institutions.
Sohail Mahmood thanked the Hungarian Ambassador for his efforts over the past 8 years and he was pleased that the two countries had laid down the basics for strengthening Hungarian-Pakistani economic cooperation by concluding bilateral agreements. The Foreign Secretary also emphasized the need for closer cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
